Barb Reed (Sumati) began yoga practice in 2005 right after she retired from 32 years of teaching Language Arts in the Warrior Run School District. When her yoga teacher accepted a position at Bucknell University, one of her yoga classmates recommended she go to the Integral Yoga Center in New Berlin. Barb took her friend’s advice and studied with Sudharman.

“He was amazing and through his teaching, I came to understand that Yoga was the 'yoke,' the union of the Body, the Mind, and the Spirit, and that I wanted to truly experience that unity. Thus began a journey that I will continue for the rest of my life. Becoming a yoga instructor now allows me to share the many benefits of yoga with others which brings joy to my heart.”

Barb completed her Hatha Level I teacher training with Dijon Carew in September, 2012. She is a Y4C (Yoga for Cancer) instructor, having received certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

Kidding Around Yoga

BA in Psychology.  Mother of three children.  Girl scout leader. I love music-singing, chanting, drumming.

I have been teaching yoga at the Whole Life Society in New Berlin since July 2010.  I have also taught several kid's yoga sessions.

I was most certainly guided into teaching yoga. It was like waking up from a dream with a profound memory — a memory that directed me down a path, leading to Sudharman and Yogaville. Teaching, as doing my own practice, brings balance to my life.  Showing up to teach is one thing, but being blessed with the divine opportunity to transmit this ancient yogic knowledge is another.  One of my greatest joys in teaching yoga is witnessing the transformation of the student.

My certifications include Hatha I certification April 2010 at Satchidananda Ashram with Satya Greenstone, Kidding Around Yoga certification December 2010 in St. Petersburg, FL. with Harini Lender, and Hatha II certification July 2012 at Satchidananda Ashram with Swami Asokananda & Lalita Vigander.

RYT 200 Hatha 1 Integral Yoga

Seven years ago I walked through the doorway of the center with a saddened heart. My father was dying and I was spiritually lost. I was greeted by a man with a long graying beard and twinkling blue eyes that lit up the room. There was a profound stillness and hint of sandalwood in the air. Something deep inside of me knew I had come to right place.  My yogic journey began that day under the guidance of that gentle guru, Sudharman.  Over the course of the next few years he shared the foundations of the yogic tradition as well as his own personal insights into the human condition, the realization that a place of peace, love, light, and timeless joy dwells within each of us, that our best decisions are made when we draw from that place, it is in times of struggle that we grow, we all have our own paths in life and we are here to support and accept each other on those individual journeys, and possibly most important to me at the time, that laughter can have a deep healing effect. The transformative lessons that Sudharman shared with all who knew him live on at the Center and beyond. Although life continues to hold challenges, disappointments, and sorrows, with yoga as my spiritual base, I am better able to accept life circumstances with a sense of grace, knowing that those times will once again be balanced with moments of joy and peace. When not twisting and breathing deeply at the center, I can be found sharing heart to hearts and British humor laughs with my son, Logan, having Zen moments with our dog, Abby, taking walks with friends and family in pristine natural areas, creating fiber art with yogic principles woven into the designs, and playing guitar.

Jenn (Amba) is a life-long student (of many things), a sometimes teacher (of just a few things), and an advocate of creativity in its many forms.

After doing yoga for many years, she took part in the teacher training in New Berlin in 2016 and is very thankful she made that decision.

Although she didn’t plan on teaching, she loves to pass on her enthusiasm and hopes it’s catching!

She continues her studies, having taken a meditation workshop at the Himalayan Institute and plans on learning forever.

Yoga for Cancer

Vivienne began yoga several years ago as a student with Sudarman. Life got in the way until her son encouraged her to go back. She began just weeks before the diagnosis of breast cancer. Yoga breathing, stretching, and centering helped her through the procedures and surgeries. She took teacher training just to deepen her own practice, but by the end of the 200 hours of basic training, realized she enjoyed sharing her passion. She is a Y4C (Yoga for Cancer) instructor, having received certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

Yoga brings her life back full circle: she began her career in “whites” as an Air Force nurse, moved on to become a nurse practitioner, now is helping others find health through yoga…wearing “whites” as an Integral Yoga Instructor.

RYT 200 Hatha 1 Integral Yoga

Clayton (Teja) took her first yoga class when she was in her twenties and continued trying various branches of yoga through the years. It wasn’t until her family moved to Pennsylvania that she was introduced to Integral Yoga. In 2012 she studied under Dijon Carew for her Yoga Alliance teacher training certification in Hatha I Yoga. She appreciates how Integral Yoga incorporates the full spectrum of yoga: asanas (postures), pranayama (breath work), meditation and Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation). She found Teacher Training an amazing, life-affirming journey not only due to the study and discussion of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Yogic philosophy and Hatha theory, but also for the meaningful friendships formed.

Clayton loves teaching the one hour class in New Berlin – a large, airy space with an abundance of natural light and lovely windows: she thinks it is the most beautiful yoga studio in the valley! She hopes her students leave her class with increased vitality, greater flexibility and a peaceful mind.
